Working on this with myself for this year, as I have been for a while now. But I also will be avoiding those that refuse to take responsibility for themselves, their feelings, thoughts, and actions, or at least reducing the amount of time I interact with them, for my own mental health.
It’s hard enough for me to work on myself. I cannot work on others for them. I can advise, but not do it for them or coddle them or enable them.
“God helps those who help themselves.” Yes, but you must also put in the work for yourself. Stop waiting around for everything to fall into your lap or to be done for you or to be handed to you. Life doesn’t work that way.
You are responsible in at least some part for your own mental health. You cannot depend upon others to make you happy. You shouldn’t look for people to make you happy. It’s not anyone’s responsibility but your own to make yourself happy.
Put in the work. Take responsibility. Take control of your own life. Take control of your own mental health. If need be, seek medication and counseling or therapy.
Sitting around whining and crying and blaming others for your thoughts and feelings is immature. It also gives control over your life to other people. You can never be independent if you’re never in control.
[ Image description for screen readers: On a green background is white words and a pink and white flower with a dark green stem. The text reads: “Keep your distance from people who will never admit they are wrong and always try to make you feel like it’s your fault.” At the bottom of the image is a website URL that reads PositiveOutlooksBlog.com, which is a different one than the current blog website. ]
I have been thinking about this since New Year’s Eve 2020. I want to be more active on my blog and on my TikTok. Starting now. I hope you enjoy the first blog post of 2021.
